A charred, treacherous land found beyond the Dead Wastes, Lavagout is a blackened land of stone and fire. Volcanoes just up from the ashen landscape all across the horizon, spewing smoke into the air, casting most of the realm in a near perpetual gloom. Fissures and seismic vents are slashed across the surface where volcanic steam hisses and magma bubbles. High blackened mountains separate Lavagout from the surrounding lands, and only a few safe passageways link it to the Dead Wastes. Still, for all of the barren, fiery locales in Lavagout, a few pockets of greenery are said to exist in the low mountains, above the threat of lava flow, where the earth is rich and fertile and the peaks shield it against the airborn ash.
Lavagout is known to host some of the most dangerous and vile creatures in the desert lands. Fire giants patrol the foothills and the mountains, challenging any and all threats to their perceived reign over the region. Their fortresses, citadels, and strongholds are built on and in volcanoes – grand constructions that are said to evoke both wonder and fear. The giants are renowned for taking slaves from the surrounding lands, primarily from the Dead Wastes, and force them to toil endlessly in the depths of their gargantuan strongholds. Gnolls also prowl Lavagout, moving between the fiery climes and the Dead Wastes to procure such slaves for the giant overlords. Lavagout is home to a great host of monstrous life as well, harboring terrible creatures of stone and fire, elementals, giant worms, and worse things still.
